In-Service Training Programme for Teachers

A two day Teachers’ In-service Training programme was conducted by Ms. Geeta Karunakaran, Head of the Training Wing at Educomp’s R&D Centre on 6th and 7th April 2012 at TMS Agra, in which the teachers got a chance to discover, understand and implement various interesting and fruitful teaching strategies which were highly productive and beneficial to strengthen the teaching-learning process within the classes. All teachers who attended the Training Sessions found the Teaching Strategies introduced very useful, enlightening, essential and productive for carrying out their role as facilitators in the day to day teaching of their respective subjects – the languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.

The sessions were well-knit and introduced various teaching strategies to the participant teachers through Role plays, brainstorming Sessions, etc. The teachers were made to understand the pros and cons of various teaching strategies through role plays and presentations. The Pre-requisites, the Pre-Work, the material requirements, the resources, the advantages, the Skills enhanced, the challenges, the age and subject appropriateness of each teaching strategy were well understood through audio-visual inputs, the handouts and formative assessments conducted for each teaching strategy that was introduced. The Sessions were appropriately crafted to make the teachers implement the various teaching strategies in their respective subjects.

The various teaching strategies that were covered up during the training were as included Think Pair Share (and its variations – See Pair Share, Read Square Share, Write Pair Share), Jigsaw, Send a Problem, Circle the Sages, Three Stay One Stray, QAXP & Round Robin.

The Subject teachers and the Primary Co-ordinator, Ms Shruti Sharma  attended the 2-day training programme on Teaching Strategies and benefitted from the enlightening educational experience.

All the participant teachers were handed over a copy of ‘The Evolving Me’ designed by the Research and Development Team where a mention about the Facilitators Personal and Professional details could be summarized. It would serve as an essential document to keep intact the details about all the Empowerment Programmes attended by a facilitator and his / her evolution as a facilitator at Educomp.
