Dear Parents

Summer break is round the corner. And vacations are the happiest time in students’ lives. They relax and recoup to health and vitality. However, it is also time to do some fun-filled activities to make the vacations more rewarding.

Thus, here are some exercises to extend the in-school opportunities to learn:

ENGLISH

1.The surroundings of your colony have fallen  into neglect resulting in moulds of garbage , choked drains , overflowing dustbins that are becoming a breeding grounds for mosquitoes , files and bacteria. As a resident of the colony, write a letter to the Editor of a national daily, drawing the attention to the careless attitude of the authorities towards the health of the people.

2. Write a letter to the Editor of an English daily making a plea to the common people to switch  to solar energy to conserve electricity and limit electricity bills.

3. You recently visited a book fair, organized by Book Worm Club. You feel that such events are really required as reading habit is dying fast among the youngsters these days. Write an e-mail to your friend describing the fair and your experience of visiting the same in about 150 words.

4. You are concerned about the fast receding water table due to mindless wastage and over drawing of water for domestic and agricultural use . Write an article in about 150 words on the topic  ‘Facing Water Crises’.

5. You were greatly motivated by the marvelous performance of Indian sportspersons and decided to deliver a speech in the morning assembly of your school highlighting the value of sports in our lives.

6. You are Karan \ Kiran , the Cultural Secretary of your school. You have been asked to inform the students of classes IX-XII about an Inter House Poem Recitation Competition. Write a notice in about 50-80 words to be put in your school notice board with all the relevant details.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

 1) Make a time line of the important events of the French Revolution and make a project on the importance of all the events.

 2) Explain all the factors of production taking example of the Millennium school.

3) Find out the important dams of India along with the name of the rivers on which it is built.

4) On the political map of India mark all the states of India.

5) Imagine yourself as the citizen of old regime of France and write a diary entry for the date 5th may 1789.

Q16  Write the coordinates of a point

Q17 In a cricket match, a batsman hits the boundary 5 times out of 40 balls played

by him. Find the probability that the boundary is not hit by the ball.

Q18. In a section of IX class, 35 students obtained more than 60 marks in English out

of 45 students. If a student is selected randomly, find the probability that he

scored less than 60marks in English.

Q19 Tickets numbered from 1 to 20 are mixed up together and then a ticket is drawn

at random. What is the probability that the ticket has a number which is a

multiple of 3 or 7?

Q20 A die is thrown. What is the probability of getting a multiple of 2 or 3?

    seconds. What is its average speed in m/s and in km/hr?

3. A bus increases its speeduniformly from 30m/s to 60m/s over a time interval of 1 min.

    Find distance travelled during this interval?

4. On a journey of 100km on a national highway, a car travels the first 40km with a uniform 

     Speed of 60km/hr. How fast should the car travel for the next 60km so that an average

     Speed of 80km/hr is maintained for the whole trip?

Five Marks questions

1. Derive all the three equations of motion for uniform acceleration using graphical method.

2. A car a moving at rate of 72km/h and applies brakes which provide a retardation of 5ms-2.

    (i) How much time does the car takes to stop.

    (ii) How much distance does the car cover before coming to rest?

    (iii) What would be the stopping distance needed if speed of the car is doubled?
