Panorma - ISA Activity I

The first activity of the ISA project, ‘Panorama of Poems ‘, was carried out from 19 Aug 2011 to 30 Aug 2011.To accomplish its aims and objectives a training session for our children of classes IV and V was conducted from 24 Aug 2011to 30 Aug 2011.The main aim of the session was to increase their knowledge about different countries, to know about various poetic techniques and devices, to develop public speaking and to develop confidence. Nobody could dig deep into their souls to write, as they were totally raw in composing poems but undoubtedly they improved upon it and enjoyed it –probably it proves to be a jumpstart of their writing career. It was difficult to write their feelings and views with passion, it was difficult for them to write about sunrise and sunset, petals, blossom and moon; the focus was on research, the words they had in front of them. The poems they composed were more informative and factual than imaginary or emotional. They started with a familiar subject and they would definitely take some more time to write something that is imaginary, something that is previously never given thought to. They did as they were directed to do, they read their poems to everyone around, they were directed to accept the constructive criticism and to change their poetry accordingly. They were explained various poetic styles and techniques. Children of classes I to III recited the poems their teachers had brought. The poems were all by international poets. Some of the children were dressed up relevantly to enact the poems. Many of them recited and enacted the poems with utmost confidence. However, equal opportunity was given to other children also, as it was noticed that by that time they were not confident enough to recite the poems in front of everyone they were made to speak in groups of 3 or 4. Some of them were also taken to the morning assembly to recite their poems and the composed poems were sent for publication in ‘Abhivyakti’- our school newsletter.

Good hand writing is a skill worth honing. Even as we move to a society driven by key boards, kids still need to learn to write by hand. It is much more than simply putting letters on a page. Many a time’s people judge us by our hand writing. It is also important because kids are required to use it daily in school; they need to be exposed to it regularly. So, a handwriting competition was held in school on for classes I to V. Some wrote beautifully but some had to struggle with the mechanics of handwriting. They were continuously asked to write slowly, to write carefully, use eraser, to position pencil properly. Their mistakes were explained and proper letter formation was reinforced.
