Astronomy club circular for session 2015-16 for classes 5 to 8.

 

Dear Parents,

 

The school in its continuous endeavour to bring the best & the latest in the field of Education & Pedagogy to its students is pleased to inform you that, in association with ZLIFE EDUCATION. The school has successfully introduced Astronomy as a regular Co Curricular activity for students for class 5th.to 8th.               

ZLIFE EDUCATION is an outdoor educational company catering to the co curricular and all around development of the child in the K-12 Segment. The education is imparted through School Clubs, Outdoor Camps, team building, adventure activities, excursions and competitions.

 

 

CLUB ACTIVITIES:

 

1.       

Sky Observations, Computer Astronomy, latest updates about the universe and hands on experience in the field of basic astro physics and astro mathematics.

2.       

Assembling & making of various Astronomical equipment’s& models like Sun Dials, Telescopes etc

3.       

Interactive Multimedia sessions.

4.       

Career Counselling on Astronomy & Space Sciences.               

5.       

Teacher workshop will be conducted in between the module for feedback, discussion, reviews and new ideations.

6.       

Interschool/interclass competitions at the end of the module.

7.       

Select students gets an opportunity to participate in ‘ASTRONOMY WEAK’ at IIT, Delhi

8.       

INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMY- A free Observation workshop for class V students on the Evening sky observation (M1/S6).

 

 

PARENT’S PARTICIPATION:

 

Parents can also enjoy & learn by actively participating in the Evening Sky Observation to be conducted in the school premises.

 

 

 

 

 

EVERY MEMBER RECEIVES:

 

1.       

8 Sessions delivered by experienced Educators/ Astronomers inside the school premises.

 

2.       

Hands on Experience with each session, designed with Activities, involving teams and individuals like comet making, sun spots viewing, Sun dial, Plan sphere reading, rocket making etc.

 

3.       

1 Session at the Outdoor Camp within 100 KMS from Delhi.This session, Night Sky Observation will be conducted in CAMP MUSTANG, Zlife Education’s Outdoor Learning Centre, 80 Km from Delhi, where students visually locate thousands of stars and constellations with latest hands on astronomy equipment’s and telescopes.

4.       

Certificate of Participation after completion of the module I.

5.       

Medals to top three teams of the Astronomy Club.

FEES - Rs 5,500/- PER STUDENT/YEAR.

 

The fee includes all type of expenses against –[lodging & boarding, dinner and transportation] for Night Sky Observation, astronomy kit & other support material. 

The last date of submitting the amount in cash to the class teachers is 20/May/2015

The first session is scheduled 04/July/2015 (Saturday)

             ASTRONOMY CLUB 2015-16

                                                                        MODULE II

Dear Parents,

 

Our aim in Astronomy Module 1 was to create an interest among students for Space and Celestial objects through a fun and practical based approach; taking that further we would like to introduce to you Astronomy Module 2.

Module 2 will bring students closer to hands-on, analytical and scientific reasoning skills in astronomy. Students will get the opportunity to infer data from telescopes & observatories using astronomical software. This module takes the curiosity of the child to the next level and a step closer to being an astrophysicist.

                                                                                      

Module 2 will have a total of 9 sessions, divided into 2 segments. The first segment will comprise of 5 sessions which would take place in the school premises. The second segment will comprise of 4 sessions which would be held at Zlife Education’s Outdoor Learning Campus in Dehradun “Camp Redstone”.

 

Please find below the details of both the segments:

Module II - Segment 1

 

Total No. Of Sessions: 5

Place to be Conducted at: School Premises

 

After Completing These Segments Children:

·        

Will understand about the eclipses and phases of Moon.

·        

Will understand the specifications of a telescope and will be able to build their own telescope.

·        

Will study Kepler data and detect exoplanets.

·        

Will develop an understanding of asteroid & comet hunting OR would go through a Star’s voyage right from its birth to its death.

·        

Will go to an advanced level in rocketry, they will concentrate on the concepts of centre of mass and pressure.

·        

Will understand the basics of Astrophotography and take pictures of the sky & celestial objects.

Fee: INR 3000/- per head (Instalment 1)

Module II - Segment 2

 

Total No. Of Sessions: 4

Place to be Conducted at:Camp Redstone, Dehradun

Duration of Program:3 Days / 2 Nights

 

Activity Schedule at Camp Redstone:

Day 0: Departure from school for Camp Redstone approx 9:00 PM

 

Day 1: Arrival at camp approx 7:00 AM. Ice Breaking Activities, Raft Building & Manoeuvring, Stellarium & Deep Sky Observation

 

Day 2: Cave Exploration Hike, Wilderness Survival (Cooking your own meal), Adventure Activities, Pinhole Camera &Astro-Photography Hands on Learning Session.

 

Day3 : Departure aprrox.9am after Breakfast

 

Fee: INR 6000/- per head (Instalment 2)

Each Student Receives:

·        

32- 35 hours of activity based sessions/classes delivered by trained astronomy educators both indoors and outdoors.

·        

2 Nights / 3 Days Outdoor Astronomy Night Sky Observation at Camp Redstone Dehradun.

·        

Astronomy Kit (Moon Map, Messeir Objects Poster, Nocturnal, Astronomical software)

·        

Medals and Certificates of Participation after completing the Module.

Total Fee for Module II: INR 9000/- (Payment to be made in cash).
