The Millennium School,Kurukshetra organised an educational trip to
JAISALMER&JODHPUR-A RAJASTHAN for classes IX to XI
Jodhpur and Jaisalmer,two jewels in a crown called Rajasthan!These 2 cities are representative of a culture
and people unlike anywhere else in India.The grandeur,might and royalty attached to these beautiful cities
are evident in the many forts and palaces that dot the cities and form its landscape,thus speaking volumnes of
a rich history that envelopes each city.
Jaisalmer,the Golden City and Jodhpur,the Sun City
Students were engaged in various fun,interesting and educational activities throughout the journey which did not
only test their existing knowledge,but allowed them to learn for theirselves through exploration and through
asking well thought-out questions and searching for the answers to them.
The learners assembled in school at 3:00 p.m.(after lunch)and
departed from school for Delhi Railway station at 3pm departured for Jodhpur
The learners arrived in Jodhpur at 10:15 a.m. After the Introduction to Young Authors Program, the learners visited Umaid Bhawan Palace and Museum which is located on the top of a hill,the palace has now been converted into a hotel.A part of this grand palace has been converted into a museum
that houses the belongings of the royal family.
The next spot to visit was Mehrangarh Fort which holds the pride because of its splendid architecture and the diverse history associated with it.Considered as
one of the most formidable and magnificent forts of Rajasthan. It was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459.The fort is spread over an area of 5 km and is built on 125 m high hill. Next place to visit was Jaswant Thada:This milky-white marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh Il,sitting
above a small lake 1km northeast of Mehrangarh,is an array of whimsical domes.lt's a welcome,
peaceful spot after the hubbub of the city,and the views across to the fort and over the city are superb.
The learners arrived at Jaisalmer city and proceeded to Desert Camp(Rajasthan Desert Safari Camp)visited to Kuldhara on the way, an abandoned village in Jaisalmer.
In the evening the learners enjoyed Jeep Safari &Camel Safari on Sand Dunes:Embark on an exciting Jeep Safari and Camel Safari to the sand dunes of Samn. They also enjoyed a view of the sunset in the middle of the beautiful Thar
Desert.
At night Rajasthani Cultural Program and dance party in the camp was organised to entertain the learners.
The learners were
transferred to Jaisalmer city to visit Sonar Kila or Jaisalmer Fort:The second oldest fort in Rajasthan that is also a living fort
(people live in the fort till this day).Standing at a height of two hundred and fifty feet tall,this imposing
structure houses more than one fourth of the city's population.Students were engaged in an activity on
photography at the fort.
They also visited Patwaon ki Haveli:The Patwon Ji ki Haveli is an interesting piece of architecture and is the
most important among the havelis in Jaisalmer.This is precisely because of two things,first that it
was the first haveli erected in Jaisalmer and second,that it is not a single haveli but a cluster of 5
small havelis.
The Gadi Sagar Lake , they visited,is the largest lake in the city,and the only source
of the city's water supply.The banks of this huge lake abound with temples and shrines.
On the last day of the trip Young Authors Program was finalized. The learners were encouraged to write a blog about their experiences of the whole journey.
Closing ceremony was organised by the mentors Mr. Sagar and Mr. Abdul of Edterra by distributing participation and appreciation certificates to the learners.
The trip was a great source of information of Indian History.The learners learnt about ancient culture enthusiastically and with great zeal.
